Dear Member,

It’s been a busy start to the season and with the summer holidays nearly upon us I thought it a good time to update you on a few things.

Firstly, I’d like to share with you some good news – we have been awarded a £500 grant from Seniors Tennis GB to spend on promoting tennis to new and lapsed players over the age of 35. The grant has only just been confirmed and the Committee is still to decide how best to channel the monies to best effect, but look out for some subsidised offers coming out, including further beginners coaching and special membership deals.

Secondly, some important dates for Junior members to note:

Junior Singles competition – Saturday 13th June (4pm & 5pm coaching sessions/equivalent)

Junior + Senior Doubles competition – Saturday 27th June (juniors by invitation only)

Members Junior Fun Day and Family BBQ – Saturday 4th July (all Members welcome)

The competitions commence at 1.00pm and the Fun Day at 2.00pm. For further details please contact Gillian or see the noticeboard in the clubhouse.

A number of club competitions have already been decided. In April we played our Open Veterans (40+) Singles tournament, with Alistair McKenzie-Harman proving too strong despite stiff competition. Alistair now has the job of taking good care of the Club’s oldest trophy, which dates back to the 1930s. In May, the Open Doubles tournament was held, with Ewen Campbell and Henry Murray running out worthy champions. We also hosted a tennis fun day at the end of May as part of Kinghorn Gala week, which saw 20 youngsters participating in various games organised by our Club coach, Nicol – a memorable day because the sun actually shone!

The ever popular annual Quiz Night was held last Friday, with 16 attendees filling the clubhouse and helping to raise  £90 towards club funds. Thanks to Duncan Clark (again!) for being such a good quizmaster and Gillian for excelling (as usual!) with the catering.

At the Committee Meeting in May we agreed to take forward various projects, including creating a Club website, improving facilities within the clubhouse, new signage and refurbishing the practice area. We also agreed to look into extending our coaching capabilities by sponsoring someone through their LTA Level 1 Coaching Assistant course – if you are interested in finding out more about this opportunity please feel free to contact me.

And finally, a plea to players of all ages – we are having increasing issues with chewing gum on the courts. Gum is not only unsightly, it sticks to the porous surfacing and lifts out bits of macadam, which provides a foothold for frost to break up the surfacing over the winter months - so no gum please on court!

Dear Member,

A warm welcome from me, your new Club President, and I hope you are all looking forward to the start of the new playing season. Now that the clocks have changed, the Tuesday and Thursday evening Senior sessions will resume next week starting at 6pm – all we need now is some Spring sunshine and it being a few degrees warmer!

When you do visit the courts next you will hopefully notice the refurbishment of the fence posts and gates, a necessary project to contain corrosion and generally maintain the overall appearance of the courts. Thanks go to Fife Community Grants who provided funding of £869 towards the overall cost of some £3000. The funding for these improvement projects relies heavily on membership subscriptions. These are kept at highly competitive rates, including an early bird discount if you pay before 1st May 2015, so please make payment as soon as possible.

I’m pleased to say that the new courts look to be holding up well, so this year we will be turning our attention to improving the clubhouse facilities. A “wish list” of possible improvements will be considered at the next Committee Meeting on 13th May, so if you have any ideas that you would like to be considered please let me or another member of the Committee know so that we can represent your views at the meeting.

We will be holding an Annual Maintenance Day on Saturday 25th April to undertake a general Spring clean and painting of the clubhouse, as well as some fence repairs, weeding and general all-round tidy up. Volunteers are needed to lend a hand, so if you can please turn up at 1pm, suitably attired to get stuck in.

Members should note that the Junior coaching programme resumes at the courts on Sunday 26th April for 10 weeks and that both courts will therefore be out of use from 1.00pm to 6.00pm on those Sunday afternoons.

For those with a competitive streak, keep an eye on the noticeboard in the clubhouse for all the latest regarding the programme of competitions, inter-club friendlies and LTA league matches. Most importantly, note that the closing date for entry to the Open Singles is 30th April, so please ensure you get your name on the entry sheet in the clubhouse before the deadline if you would like to participate.

And finally, congratulations to Ian McKenzie and Andy Menzies who were successful in the Wimbledon Ballot ticket draw.

I look forward to seeing you on court!
