The play at Wimbledon and Queens may be over but at Kinghorn the competition is just starting to warm up. We have entered teams into three East of Scotland LTA leagues, which have either just started or are about to start. The Summer Social League (Mixed Doubles) is played on a Monday evening, and the Veteran Mens Doubles and Veteran Ladies Doubles are played on a Sunday morning. You can follow our progress by going to the Teams page on the website where you can access the league tables, as well as check the dates when we have home matches (which unfortunately means that the courts will not be available for casual or club play on those dates/times). The home match dates are also noted within the calendar on the website.
Our seniors got some good practice in when we visited Dalgety Bay back in June for the away leg of our annual Mixed Doubles inter-club friendly. Friendly it may be, but it’s no less competitive for that and all four of our pairings struggled to find form, resulting in a very one-sided win for Dalgety Bay. However, home advantage is worth a lot in tennis and hopefully the return leg in September will provide an opportunity for a much closer match.
Our club competitions continued during June with focus on the juniors. This year’s Junior Singles champion is Calum Donaldson, who won out 6-4 against Dylan Small in a very close final. This was followed by the Senior + Junior doubles competition where Henry Murray’s consistency and Jodie Horsburgh’s ferocious forehand won the day, with Joanna Clark and Yuill Petrie finishing as runners up.
It’s good to see more juniors turning out on a Wednesday evening to make use of the court time reserved for them (from 6pm onwards). Please note however that this is not an organised club session and parents are asked to ensure that juniors are adequately supervised and that players rotate on and off court to allow everyone an opportunity to play.
The next block of Adult / Junior coaching starts on Sunday 23rd August. If you have still to pay for this can you please do so as soon as possible as numbers are limited and we do have a waiting list for places.
And finally, the next Committee Meeting will be held on Wednesday 26th August, so if you have anything that you would like raised then please speak to a Committee member.
